rotting woodwork - is this a job that a painter and decorator could do?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.05 PM
hi I was looking for a painter and decorator to re paint my roof fascias, when I noticed that the end corner was rotting. I also have rotting woodwork on the bottoms of my back door frame. Is this a job that a painter and decorator could do, or is it more for a joiner? Any information and advice that I could get on here would be very much appreciated - and also an idea of job timescale - with thanks

Either, or both!
Timescale could only be assessed on viewing the fascia on site, (it's at height, extent of damage, accessibility, ladder access? scaffold? ) as also the back door but without the height!
Hope that helps!

Hi Lorrmill,
Ok so a decorator can only fill so much untill you require a carpenter. What a carpenter would normal do would be to splice the area and replace with new wood primed ready for a decorator to paint. A honest carpenter would tell you if the rot is good enough to be scraped out dried and filled with hard would filler. If the rot is very bad then carpenter it is. Good luck Paul
