Do I not have responsibility for either side of my garden fencing?
Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.33 PM
I'm in rented accommodation, my neighbour to the right has 6 foot panel fencing up and it was there already when I moved in. I've come home today to find my neighbour to the left of me has now put up 6 foot panel fencing as well!!! I always thought that the left hand side was my responsibility. Also the posts are not the same height as the panels!! Am I in my right to question this? I don't want to argue with my neighbour but want to know if what she has done is all above board?

I would inform you landlord and he/she can check there land deeds to see what side they own. It is up to them if they want to investigate you should only maintain to the standard of it as you moved in. I would not get involved with land boundaries without the right info as sometimes one neighbour can own both sides of his/her land.

I agree have a word with your landlord let him know
I have been in the fencing business for over 18 years and come across this quite regularly.check your land deeds .for ownership.height has to be a maximum of 6 ft without planning permission.also if the fence encroaches onto your land that is not allowed.90 % of the time we all have to maintain one side boundary fence.but you will have to check your deeds lines to guarantee who maintains which.
