Refitted radiator not working after taken out for plastering work (Combi Central Heating)

Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.33 PM

We had one of the radiators drained and taken out by a plumber so that we could replaster the walls. I have now refitted the radiator and filled it with water and bled it a few times and brought the pressure back to 1.5. Then turned the heating back on and all the other radiators are fine and hot apart from the one I refitted !! Thank you Guys for the advice received below. I'll try that next time I visit my apartment in August and let you know. Cheers The pipes on each side of the radiator are cold when compared with all the other radiators which means that the hot water is not reaching this radiator. Have I missed anything when refitting the radiator? On the right side, there is the thermostat valve which I turned to full and on the lleft side the rad is connected to a valve that has a flat top on it which I unscred to see if that made any difference but nothing. Can anyone offer any advice ? It would be greatly apprecaited. Many Thanks. Makis

Your own plumber could not help you?! Oh well. Two possible problems, the TRV is stuck in closed position despite you turning it fully on. First remedy: Take the TRV head off by un-screwing it, their you will see a small pin/shaft, get a pair of bull nose pliers and apply some moderate force to the pin by gently pulling it up and down until you feel movement, then screw the TRV head back on and test. Second remedy if above fails: Their may be a partial blockage problem with sludge/debris in your heating circuit leading to that radiator, turn all other radiators off at the TRV's only, but leave the problematic one FULLY OPEN, we are now trying to force the heating through that single radiator, when it reaches temperature turn all the other radiators back on, and again test on completion. If all goes well you may need to re-balance your radiators if necessary. Google this procedure (not difficult to do)
