To fit an internal or external door to a flat?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.05 PM

I need to replace the damaged front door in my sons new flat. It opens inwards and leads onto a stairway down to the communal front door. I want to fit an FD30 Internal door 44mm thick. Fit it with a yale standard thumb turn latch set. Is this type of door strong enough to withstand a burgular? I would probably fit a moetice lock as well. Can these type of locks be fitted to internal fire doors? Thanks.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

this door is as strong as you can get it, the locks are good too, if you are still not satisfied , you can fit a steel band over the receiver on the yale lock , and use a l shaped receiver for the dead lock. Using screws which will go into the wall not only the frame will give extra strong hold.

Sound advice from Carpentry Services, to further ensure the fire safety of your door fit the intumescent pads, you can get them in screw fix and they go either side of your lock in the mortise and protect this area of the door against fire as it has been weakened. Not essential but proper building regs will state you need to do this.

Hello, for extra security you could fit security hinges which are relatively cheap combined with good locks makes the door very hard to get through. you could even fit a full 3 bolt mechanism , with dpad handle on the outside which would again increase security.

Hi I agree with most of the comments above but if the door that you want to replace is a front door into the property then an internal door is not the best door to purchase for the job. You should purchase an external FD30 fire rated door and not an internal FD30 fire rated door. Good luck with the job, Darren.
