Covering gloss paint on plastered walls
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.09 PM
I have plastered walls that had a dado rail on them half way up. When the wooden rail was painted with gloss paint, the paint got onto the plaster above and below the rail and created 2 linear patches. The rails have been removed, the gloss paint sanded down but not totally removed. 2 coats of emulsion (undiluted) has failed to hide it and it shows through. The texture of the painted surface is ok but the gloss shows through. What can I do? More coats of emulsion?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If you sand it down, try to use undercoat first then probably 2 coats of emulsion (depends what brand of emulsion you are using)

emulsion will cover over gloss ,the problem you will have is it takes longer to dry on the gloss than the wall ,put the second coat on at least 6 hrs after the first as the emulsion on the gloss may be touch dry but not fully cured and applying the second coat will work the first coat up .
