Damp Proofing

Do I need to pull up, damp proof and then re-lay my stone kitchen flags?

I have recently moved into a stone terrace and have stone flags in the kitchen. The walls are brick inside. It is damp. It has been suggested to me that I neeed the walls injecting with damp proof and that if I want to keep the stone floor I need to have the flags pulled up, a full damp proof membrane put in then re-layed etc. Can anyone offer advise as to what is best to do? cheapest? how long it takes etc.

hi. I would recommend that you lift the flags and dig down, level with compact sand,lay DPC on top of this 100mm of King insulation and relay stone flags on top. I would recommend that you also use a membrane on the walls that goes under the floor membrane as well as the chemical dpc. It might be worth considering whilst your doing all this work lifting flags ect to include underfloor heating before relaying them, you might have to lay a 60mm concrete sub base for this, obviously this depends on your budget, but just a thought. cost depends on size and if kitchen cabinets need to be removed ect to allow for work. Aprox cost for an average size Kitchen if kitchen was removed, to dig out lay DPC and kingspan and relay flags, with lower 1 meter of walls membraned including Chemical DPC and re plaster would be around the £2600 mark hope this helps
