Advice on conservatory plastering - rough finish and raised spots

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.09 PM

Just had a new conservatory plastered, many areas of the finish are rough and there are quite a few trowel marks and some crazing and cracks. I could probably sand and fill these but there are also areas where I can only describe it as looking like it has a rash - raised spots in the plaster. The company has dismissed it as perfectly acceptable and said I shouldn't expect a glass like finish. Am I expecting too much?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You have had a poor quality finish. You are most certainly not expecting too much. Some plasterers do glass trowel there work meaning it feels very smooth to the touch. It is possible to not trowel it as much and still have a flat finish with no trowel marks or crazing. What you have explained may be acceptable to them but it is far from a quality finish and in my eyes as an experienced plasterer completely not acceptable. I would insist on it being re done or refuse to pay for it.

As a Decorator I get this a lot! The crazing and cracks are where it has dried too quickly.. make sure you use a DECORATOR and not a PAINTER to get over this for you with the minimum fuss and cost.
