Painting over plaster - is there a different top coat product that gives better coverage?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.51 PM

I have let new plaster dry for at least 3 weeks then done mist coat and let dry for a week. Now on second coat of brilliant white vinyl silk and looks like am going to need a third coat - what have I done wrong? Is there a different top coat product that gives better coverage and does not need 3 coats?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, Vinyl silk has always had a problem with coverage in my opinion compared with vinyl matt. If you are looking for a sheen finish I would suggest an acrylic eggshell, it is also a very tough finish. It will be more expensive than vinyl silk, but by far better coverage than silk, and stay away from budget brands because a trade paint will always cover better. It would be best to go to the local trade decorating center such as Crown or Johnstones to buy this, today everyone is welcome at a trade center. Hope this helps. Dave
