Could neighbour's uncovered chimney be reason for damp problem on wall where there was a chimney stack?

We moved into a house where the chimney stacks were already removed. Now we are having damp problem on the wall where there was a chimney stack. Our next door neighbours chimneys are not covered, could this be the reason?

Yes this could well be the reason ,that is if the chimney is not in use.
