Cooker Hood Blowing Air Back onto the Hob

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.05 PM

Hello, We just moved in our new house and we noticed that the hood on top of our gas cooker seems to be blowing air back down onto the hob. This makes cooking unpleasant (and dangerous) and reduces the efficiency of the gas hob. It seems to be a recirculating ventilation system, as it is not fixed directly on an external wall (and because it seems to be blowing air through two grids in the middle of the shaft). We believe that the backdraft might come from the wall cabinets on each side of the hood. We tried to deflect the air flux with hard boards, and this seems to improve the situation slightly. Would anyone know what could be the problem (faulty motors?, inefficient hood?, wrong electrical connection?)? How could we fix the problem, without necessarily changing the hood? Thank you in advance for your help!

Its certainly not an electrical connection issue! As the type of AC motors used in these cooker hoods will spin the same way irrespective of if the supply polarity is correct or not. As its a re-circulating fan, it could well be as you say, deflection of the airflow from the cabinets.
