My house is being re-rendered and a lot of cracks have appeared
Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.33 PM
The second coat of render is on and I've come home today to find there is a lot of polyfilla on the render and I can also see some cracks. I'm assuming that the polyfilla is covering cracks but there's so much on the walls that most of the render must have cracks in it. It has been very hot so is the cracking due to the render drying too fast in the heat? And is it correct to just put polyfilla on it? Thanks for any advice.

To be honest, I'd be concerned. I've never heard of anyone putting polyfilla on fresh render before. They don't sound very experienced and I wouldn't be surprised if your new render doesn't last long.
Firstly, the render mix depends on conditions plasterers are rendering in and the wall it's being applied to. They could have used additives to slow down the drying process, or used a lime based render. Any cracks that do appear should be sorted with a cement/sand render mix, definitely not polyfilla.

There def should not be any cracking on your render. The cracking may very well have been caused by the heat, precautions should have been taken to stop this such as mixing a BBA approved waterproofing agent in the mix and or soaking the background first with water from a hose or bucket to slow down the suction. Using polyfilla on render will severely hinder its waterproofing abilities.
