fibreboard flooring and oak boards
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.08 PM
Mohawkflooring.com say that you shouldn't lay oak hardwood flooring over fibreboard underlay. Is this correct? I can't see how to answer you, Mike, other than this way, and thanks for replying. It's solid T&G, 18mm and the sub floor is old floorboards that have been badly cut up. There is no moisture. However, I decided to cut my losses and bought 6mm plywood instead since there was nothing about using fibreboard on the web other than not to use it (Wicks said that the springiness of fibreboard would create too much play on the T&G and would weaken them). Cheers

hi, the wood being solid then no to the fibre board, yes to the ply , secure all the old floor boards screw them down check for pipes before you fix them , screw down the ply use screws 100 to 150mm apart no longer then the thickness of the ply plus the 20mm boards make sure screws are not too long or you might hit a pipe, you can glue the solid floor or secret nail it , if gluing use a flexible glue, allow as much as you can for expansion as it will expand
