Roofing

Assistance with impartial opition of an adjoining roof

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.05 PM

Hiya, My neighbour has recently had his chimney taken down. I understand that the roofer had issues with to marry up the roof perfectly. A photo of the join (which is sits on my side by ~1.5 ft) can be seen here: http://i.imgur.com/pl1fBbE.jpg My Questions are: - Is this roof joint going to be watertight - Are the titles interlocked - I have been informed that the flash band is warranted for 15 years. How long is this flash band likely to last in situe. Background information: - Property is South Facing and 1 mile from the coast and in South Wales, UK. Thanks Andrew

It looks like the tiles are not lining up. Easy fix, take ridge tiles off strip approox 2 square metre of tiles and re lay, opening / closing until tracks are lined up, re ridge. Also are the tiles the same manufacturer ie old tile looks like a ludlow major new tile redland renown. slightly different profiles.http://www.monier.co.uk/typo3temp/pics/c942cfaea4.jpg http://www.roofingsuperstore.co.uk/user/u/prod/l/21145.jpg Hope this helps.

Hmmm...do not like the look of that! Obviously the newer tiles are of a different size, he would have been wiser to use second hand tiles. I hate flash banding. This is south facing and will invariably get more thermal and solar degradation. This is roofers sticky tape, would not give it 15 years in the Valleys! Plus it looks terrible!

Unfortunately I can see the picture but from what you say I would be cautious. Flash band has its uses but not ideal for this sort of job. Roofs with different tiles can be joined using various methods. Fibre glass panels ( varying product names) or lead can be fitted between the roofs to basically finish one roof and start a new one. We are based in south Wales and knowing the weather would never use flash band on a roof.
