Would new windows and moving radiator make any difference to mould and condensation problem?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.50 PM

Hi, I recently noticed mould patches on the walls of my bedroom. I've also noticed a lot of condensation on the windows of the room and on that wall in the last couple of months. The clothes in my cupboard have also become mouldy. It's an external wall and the radiator is on the opposite wall. The room has upvc windows which are about ten years old. Would installing new windows and moving the radiator to that wall make any difference? I would appreciate your advice.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi yes it will help and installing new windows and moving the radiator.. Trickle vents in your windows help too. If you were to go down the route of new windows etc.. Just be aware that this will not stop automatically. This is due to the moist and condensation which has already been built up. Monitor the situation and you will find it will get better within time and dry out. Another thing you could do is to install air vents in your soffit which helps the air to circulate around the house. But again it won't cure the problem straight away.

Hi there Yes new windows will help as long as they have trickle vents to help air circulation and moving the radiator onto the affected wall will also help as it will increase the temperature of this wall and could prevent the moist air condensing on this wall no guarantees but will help, you may also need to a extractor fan. other ways to help will be not to dry clothes on the rad in this room, always make sure your bathroom/kitchen door is closed when in use and soon after, you need to manage the moisture in the house. just remember condensation damp will always travel to the coldest part of the room, so "trickle vents" or window vents will assist in the moisture travelling out of the room. But also ensure the rooms are kept warm and the walls are adequately insulated so as to stop the walls becoming cold.

yes that will help , what will also help is pouting up a new windows and removing the radiator to install in another place in the room.just make sure you are aware that it will not disappear automaticlly due to the fact that there moist and comdensation has been build up.another thing that you could also be useful is to install some air vents as there will help the air circulate.
