Filling a hole in the ceiling
Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.33 PM
I've just had the ceiling in the hall plastered. He has left a hole, about 4 inches by 3 inches where the ceiling joins the wall and has said that he will need to come back to screw a peice of wood into it before he can then plaster over it. Unfortunately he has proved to be really unreliable and I have already been waiting over a week for him to come back and do this. Do you have any tips on how I could do this myself.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Phil, 1st thing 1st, there is an old saying in plasterers, plaster on wood is no good, what I would suggest to you buy a bag of easy fil and do it yourself, it may need a second coat after it has dried it does sometimes shrink a little but it does not crack, once happy with result lightly sand back a little and paint, jobs a gooden ;-)

I'd attach a batten of timber behind the plasterboard, cut a piece of plasterboard to fill the hole and screw to the batten, then use a good quality filler to make good. Look up a 'how to' video on youtube to explain the process step by step.
