Replacement of sagging bedroom floor and ceiling joists.

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.50 PM

Hello, we are in the process of buying a 1855 Victorian 3 bedroom terraced property. The floors and ceilings in all three rooms have sagged because the joists were not up to the job and age has taken it's toll. We are looking to replace them all, but would like to know how we can do this ourselves. We have done building work before but the joists are pretty important and we clearly don't want to destabilize the structure. Could anyone please give us an idea of how we should go about this and the main issues we may face. We've had several builders in so we know what needs doing, we'd just like to see if it's possible to do ourselves. Cheers Pete

Hi Pete you don't seem to sure on the work that needs doing and I would suggest to leave it to the professionals as the joists will need a lot of support and maybe even steel work such as an RSJ giving the description you have given , also starting on ground level is safer as the sagging may give way once dismantling takes place ,many thanks Steve .
