Electrical

sockets my side can they be adjoined to neighbour

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.50 PM

Can a cable be adjoined from my side thru to neighbour. Since i changed my plugs from that side of wall and now running plug through extension into different circuit all of a sudden my neighbour has no TV. Is that not illegal. My wall outside has the box for cable and noticed there cable has been linked to it yet they supposed to be with a different provider. Is that not illegal.

Try re-phrasing the question as it does not make any sense, I assumed you'd started talking about 13amp plugs and sockets and then it goes into Cable TV? could it be that a cable has been damaged during the work? Or do you mean that the main incoming cable from the street supplies both your house and next door? If so then this is called a "looped service" and is very common. It is possible for you to have a different electricity supplier to your neighbour even though you share a single service cable as the cable belongs to the Distribution Network Operator and your supplier rents it from the DNO. As such part of your electricity bill and part of your neighbours bill will be for the use of this shared cable.

If next door had a socket fed from your supply then it's not right at all because you will be paying for there electric

Sounds like a straight forward theft of your electricity and a matter for the police if your neighbour is the person responsible for the connection to your electricity supply to supply power to his sockets.
