Removing a upvc window replacing with patio door do I need a lintel?

I have a 3 metre wide upvc window I wish to take out and replace with a 4 section upvc patio door 2 sliding 2 fixed there is no lintel on the outside course of bricks do I need to fit a lintel or could I fit a steel plate under the bottom coarse of bricks between the patio frame and the bricks.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes an angle iron would be required as a flat steel will sag due to the length hope this helps
