K rend / monocouche - breatheable?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.08 PM

We have tanked external walls, the walls retain earth, we've applied a sand cement smooth render finish. It's hairline cracking and looks very poor. We are now weighing up whether we can apply k rend or monocouche, will this product act as a vapour barrier or is it breathable? I've asked the ? Already someone replies use weber k rend or monocouche and scratch back the following day, that's not the ? I was trying to get answered. I've been using the said products for many years. Does anyone have the answer simply... Are either product breathable ? if not then common sense, tells me it's no good to spread over a professional K11 tanking system that we've installed Regards Chris

All through-coloured monocouche renders are breathable. If you're using one in conjunction with vapour permeable damp proofing systems then you're looking for the WVTR (water vapour transmission rate) of the respective monocouche render that you're proposing to use. And this information will usually be found on data sheets or BBA certificates. So, just for example here, if a monocouche render has a WVTR of 1.85 MNsg–1 at its finished nominal thickness, you only need to ascertain that the WVTR of the vapour permeable tanking system behind it is less than this figure and you have then got a perfectly compatible and workable system - the vapour transmission rate of the tanking system (e.g Vandex BB75) has not been compromised by the subsequent topcoat (the monocouche).
