Tiling

Rude tradesman and bathroom leak

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.50 PM

I got some floor tiling and en-suite shower tray change job done by a tradesman and in total payment was approximately £1500-£1700. The payment was made in parts at several stages of work and never later than 50 hours of finishing the work. For e.g if the work was done on Friday the payment was made by Monday. Sometimes I even handed out some cash even when tradesman didn't even ask. Now there is a leak in the en-suite and I called 8 him days ago when he promised me to come and have a look 2 days later. He didn't turn up and haven't heard from him since I called him several time and sent the text with no reply. This morning I called his mobile and land line for no avail. Then I sent a text saying I am annoyed and didn't expect this from him and he came all shouting and hanging up and then calling again and again hanging up. He accused me of late payments and when I said your terms didn't specify how soon you need to be paid, and if you were paid within 48 hours instead of same day it doesn't mean you can leave a leaky bathroom and justify it. Please suggest what can I do and where have I gone wrong. The tradesman was very rude saying he didn't like my text and was off sick and the whole point I was making that I understand you were sick but that didn't stop you from sending me a 1 line text saying that you are not well and can't come on the promised date and he saw it as unreasonable.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would call the tradesman again and be as calm as possible. There is no point in heated arguments. Ask him if and when he is going to return to put the job right. He may well be ill or tied up elsewhere. Reasonable requests are the best way forward. If this does not work for you write to him asking again. You can go to trading standards for their help and advice but it is always preferable to resolve the matter between yourselves. Hope this helps both of you.

Totally agree with Previous posts from APMS, try and resolve it if you can as calmly as possible. Regardless of the payments made, whether they were after 48 minutes of 48 hours this does not justify sub standard work. I would suggest another week of reasonable requests then involve trading standards. Good luck
