Whats the best way to clean up exposed brickwork?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.37 PM
I have exposed two brick walls in my lounge and i would like to keep them. However the house is 100 years old so they are not in the best condition - they are covered in what looks like cement and are in need of cleaning but the actual brickwork looks in good condition. Please advise how i can get the best look so i can keep them rather than having to replaster. Many thanks

Rent a scabbler, This is a hand held machine with a revolving head.Different attachments including "soft " ones. Keep the wall dampened down, otherwise you'll end up with too much dust. Afterwards seal with normal PVA.

hi i have worked on a listed building , done the same thing to a big wall and chimney , the best thing i found was a wire bit which goes in the end of a drill and you clean away , but it dusty , so you could go to your local builders merchant and bye some brick cleaner and wire brushes , the brick cleaner does give of an odder but does the job , hope this helps

Doing the work yourself will be a messy and dusty job. I would get a brick cleaning specialist who has all the right equipment and the know how.
