Our survey has identified potential damp, who is best to say what the remedy is?

you say that the property is approx 100 years old,properties of this age are usually constructed without physical foundations & are built straight to formation clay,this means that if any dpc originally installed breaks down there is no barrier between the above ground brickwork & clay resulting in rising damp.i would advise that you contact a damp-proofing firm which specializes in plastic membrane dpc installations as chemical injection methods are just not effective in preventing rising damp on this type of construction. regarding your damp in the kitchen cupboards,you could consider installing a couple of air bricks behind the units to provide air flow,fit 1 at each end of the wall behind units as this increases the flow. the damp on the first floor will most likely be penetrating damp & it would be wise to check flashings around the stack & also the condition of the stack pointing & pot flaunching. hope this is some help,good luck

Hi jessandrichard Damp patches on or around chimney breasts - sometimes showing yellow or brown stains in wallpaper or paint - you have 'hygroscopic' chimney salts that are attracting moisture from the air, which may include tars and other chemicals from burning wood or coal. I would call on a reputable Damp proofing/Remedial company and maybe seek three quotes. Good luck Scott.
