Do I need a new boiler or just a new water tank?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.50 PM

My partner and I have moved into 3-bed house and the water pressure is low so the shower is rubbish. The boiler is only about 7 years old & is a condensing boiler. We have been getting mixed messages. Some people say we need a combi boiler for a decent powerful shower? Some people are saying the boiler should be fine but the water tank (in spare bedroom, boiler is in kitchen) is really old so need a new wated tank? Any ideas?!

Simple job to remedy, you have a conventional boiler with a hot water cylinder. Solution: fit a shower booster pump but make sure you select the correct pump e.g. negative head or positive head and follow the manufacturers installation instructions carefully! copy & past link below in to your browser to identify correct shower pump: http://www.stuart-turner.co.uk/media/136776-SystemsPressurePumpsTypes.pdf If you can stretch your budget fit a Stuart & Turner shower pump, they are probably the market leaders.

It sounds like you do not have much of a head of pressure (difference in height between the cold water storage tank and the shower head) this being the case the way to remedy this is to install a shower pump to increase the pressure.

A Good Combi Boiler Should last about 15 years Combi boilers get there water from the Mains. Nothing to do with your Cold water Tank! Get your mains pressure Tested. Good mains pressure is about 1.5 to 2.5 Bar of Pressure about 11 to 15 litres per minuite
