wires hanging down from the ceiling in the corner of the room

I have just moved into a new flat. The flat was built 10 years ago and I have noticed that in two rooms there are electrical looking wires hanging down from the ceiling in the corner of the rooms. It looks like there might have been there since the flat was built. What are they? What do I do about them?

Probably security alarm cables, but if in doubt you should get them checked out.

Sounds like cables for PIR alarm sensors, or possibly speaker cables?
