Gas leak - been told my electric oven should not be used

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.04 PM

Can I ask I had a gas leak which is still being worked on. They have disconnected the gas going into my kitchen. But I have been told that my electric oven should not be used until the problem has been completely sorted. Is this correct please?

Whilst this is inconvenient, it's general safety advice. No electrical appliances or even a light switched should be operated if there is a gas leak, as the slightest spark that's generated when turning something on (e.g. pressing a light switch) can ignite the gas and cause an explosion. Once the leak has been stopped and the gas safely isolated and the rooms vented with fresh air for a few hours, then the use of electrical appliances can resume safely.

Hi, If your gas is disconnected from the mains, and is done by a corgi registered plumber and your house house no gas at all, you can use your electric oven. Unless the leak is outside the property. But if it is only disconnected your kitchen , it is not safe to use. A human life is far more important. I hope this helps.

Who ever touched your gas supply and done or tried to do any repairs and was unable to rectify they should have turned your gas supply off at the ECV I can only take it they are not GAS SAFE REGISTERED.
