How to remove electric fireplace and heath without damaging the wall

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 3.04 PM

Hi, We are installing a new wood flooring in a flat we have recently purchased. In the living room, there is a fake electric fireplace mounted on the wall. We wish to remove the fireplace so that the floor boards can run across the entire room. The new floor boards and underlay combined will be almost 10mm thicker than the original flooring, and this means the new flooring will be higher than the base-plate of the fireplace. This can be very ugly. There are no indentations in the fireplace, it seems that the fireplace frame is just mounted onto the wall. I cannot find any exposed screws anywhere, and I am a little reluctant to just pry the frame off the wall, as it could cause significant damage to the wall if the fireplace is screwed in. We therefore need advice on how should one remove the fireplace in a safe and easy manner? I do not even know what kind of trades man who would offer such services. Your advises are much appreciated. Thank you very much in advance!

Hi there If I may suggest The fireplace ( if fitted by a professional) will be fixed to the wall using just 2 screws And they would of been filled and decorated over to blend in with the surrounding area. Normally the screws are set about 3 inches (75mm) down from the top of the unit. But could be further down by a few inches.. If you get a small item ( maybe a wooden spoon from your kitchen) and tap gently down each side of the fireplace and listen carefully , you should hear the different sound it makes when you locate the fixings.. It should sound slightly hollow.. I cannot promise it will work for you but I have removed many old fixings such as yours and my method has never failed.. May I just add you will obviously have to gouge out the filler to expose the screws ,but this will be just a small area that even a novice could easily repair with a little filler.. I hope you succeed and I'm sure your property will look fab after regards richie
