Hello everyone
Me and my co-worker are on our way to starting our extension service. Both of us are qualified drafts-men, and have worked in the industry before. This is the first time we have decided to go free lance and I have a couple of questions.
These questions are painfully obvious, I know, but I just want to get a clear cut perspective.
1- as I drafts man what drawings am I expected to provide? (Including the ones I would show the client, builders, and council)
2- Other than work force, and materials supply what other fundamental costs are involved?
3- How is the fee distributed amongst the workforce?
4- are there any services I need to pay for the builders I.e. scafolding?
5- is there anything else of great important I should take into account?
Thank you
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
All questions are blindingley obvious"but only if you know the answers"
Hi,
A wise man once said to me if you dont ask a question how will you ever learn!!!
Good luck with your new business, firstly the companies that I use for my works offer different types and styles of business.
some limit the works to the bare minimum.
Others will do a moor in depth service!!
It all comes down to cost and how you precive your client/business relationship.
Plans at first should be SIMPLE for the customer and some builders to understand.
The council will want building regulations, structural caculations U values clearly shown.
If you provide an in house Project manigment service the you will need to get to know a good :-
Plumber/Heating eng.
Scaffolder.
Mason.
Plasterer.
Electrician.
Solicitor
Etc
Cover all services ok.
You must be insured
I could go on !! If you need to chat just follow the link to my company ok
regards Ashley
i agree with the above answer but i would like to add that a GOOD Draftman is only as good as the drawings and especially the measurements he provides. i had a bungalow that i knocked down and rebuilt. the draftsman i usede had a good rep and i considered myself lucky to have got him. UNTIL building the walls to the measurements he provided to me differed to the plans he submitted to the planning office. this made the bungalow 600mm smaller than it should have been. on challenging him he had no excuse. the moral is.... check once then again to be sure. Then once you are sure CHECK AGAIN. It only takes one mistake to ruin 20 years of reputation. best wishes on your venture.
