sealants for skirting boards

Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.33 PM

Hi I have recently moved into a rented property which has laminate in all of the rooms. There is no wooden trim between the floor and skirting boards, it has been sealed with sealant, but some of it has come away and I have seen a few of those carpet beetles at the skirting (even though there's no carpets!) I am going to spray it but want to reseal as well. What would be the best, a flexible silicone sealant or a flexible decorators filler? It looks like silicone that's already there. Thanks very much

Hi there, I wouldn't use silicon sealant at all. Silicon can not be painted and even if you do, the paint peels off. I would invest small amount to buy Scotia Trim (2400mm, £6.00) which can be painted as well as skirting boards. Flexible decorators filler I use for gaps between skirting board and walls and sometimes to address cracks on dry walls (similar properties as Polyfilla). Hope my answer helps, Vaclav, Handyman
