We agree with the other builders. The most common causes of damp (condensation) in older houses are:
Installation of plastic (UPVC) windows with no ventilation
Ventilation bricks blocked up
Fireplaces blocked up with no ventilation
Draught excluders around doors
Lack of ventilation to cellars
No extractor fans to kitchen and bathrooms
Un-vented tumble dryers
Having the heating on too high or having the heating on a constant on / off cycle (causing increased humidity)
Drying clothes internally without ventilation or leaving a window open
Gas fires (cause a lot of humidity)
Hope this helps

If it's black mould it condensation and the room either requires ventilation or constant heat ie to match the rest of the house, don't shut the room up, let it breathe, if it's white mould it could be a water leak the other side of the wall, hope this helps, Andrew

Hello,
Shrivenham Builders are correct. If there is black mould growth, it is a sign of condensation. Black mould will only grow on moisture created internally.
Ask a ventilation specialist to take a look at the property. They should be able to find a guaranteed solution that won't compromise the energy efficiency of your home.
