External insulation advice (to cure condensation in back bedroom)

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.04 PM

Can someone with hands on experience explain how external insulation should be installed. I have had several problems with condensation in a back bedroom (solid brick wall) over the years and want to make sure this attempt to cure it will be the last. I wanted to know how the insulation boards need to be fixed to the wall, and do they need to cover the dpc? Should there be a gap between the boards and the existing wall, ie creating a cavity? Should the boards be fixed with adhesive or something else. Do I need a timber frame to hold it all in place? Once affixed Ive assume that a metal mesh and standard render is adequate, is cladding any better? Many thanks

hi The way external insulation is installed is by drilling each board in place 5 times one in each corner and one in the centre. you repeat this all the way up until completely covered. you will need to install a track at the bottom to start your boards of. you then need to base coat while applying a wide base scrim over the top. then finish with a top coat and dash or a finish of your choice. hope this helps please get in touch if need further assistance.
