Hygroscopic salts in plasterwork
Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.33 PM
We have damp patches appearing on two bedroom ceilings where they meet the chimney breast. It appears to be hygroscopic salts (meets all the internet criteria for it anyway). I have been advised on this website that I need to check roof, chimney pots etc. I have had roofers look at roof and they have all said it's fine, I have had the chimney capped to make sure no water is going down it. My question is which tradesman will be able to look at this properly to see what is causing it - a plasterer, a roofer, a damp specialist, a builder? I don't know who to even begin with - out of the roofers I've had round (5 different ones to date) none have filled me with any confidence that they have a clue what is going on. I just want to have someone who would know about these things have a look and tell me what is wrong and how to fix it. Am I asking too much?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
