Conservatory, extension or open up living rooms and leave small kitchen?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.04 PM

I've moved into an Edwardian semi with 2 separate living rooms and a small kitchen. I'm not sure whether to open up both living rooms and have sliding doors on the back and leave kitchen smaller or have a conservatory/extension 5m x 4m take window out of kitchen and leave open and also window out of living room and leave open. I've had builders and conservatory companies out to look at both give conflicting advice. Builder says still by having 2 full walls, glass roof and sliding wall will still be impossible to heat. Conservatory company says it will be warm enough in winter as i have a log burner in the back living room. thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If I were you I would leave both windows in place, build the conservatory and heat it by either underfloor heating (if your boiler is big enough) or install a wood burner ,I agree with the builder it certainly would not be warm enough to sit in there on a cold winters day.If you want to bring the conservatory into the house, just install a set of sliding doors in one room e.g one living room,I think you would have to increase the size of your radiator in that room as well as install some sort of heating in the conservatory.
