How do you remove brick paint from brickword to resore the orginal brick (outside brickwork)

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 2.36 PM

Brickwork has been painted with brick paint to keep out the damp. Want to remove the paint and resore the orginal brick to their former glory. Then want to seal the brickwork, take out old black mortar and repoint with fresh cement.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If it was just to key the brick for rendering then you can bush hammer with a kango attachment! But im sure you want the bricks undamaged and restored to former glory! I would call a good sandblasting company and they will remove all the paint, bit messy but wont damage the brick or integrity of your property. Scott.

Hi, There are a lot of product on the open market that can be used, Depending on the type of paint used on your property?? If the paint is flakey I would start with a low presure, presure washer dont go too mad with it as the surface of the brick may have gotten a little soft over the years!! If it was painted pre 1960 you may find it has a paint wash containing Lime in it! this should make removal a lot eaiser as this product gets re activated under a jet of water and will soften and peal off. Later paints may prove a little more stubern! If a Gloss has been used(God forbid) but quight common, your task will take a little longer, but not impossible. If the bricks are sound then an "ANTEL" tripple strength waterprofer put on twice will sort out the re facing and watertightness of the brick. Your morter if an old property will be a lime based one!! You can order this on line pre mixed, just purchase a morter gun and a wethering bar tool and you are away. Remember that different periods used a differant style of wether striking on the joints, all information on line. any Questions just ask. regards Ashley If the paint is flakey I would start with a low presure, presure washer dont go too mad with it as the surface of the brik may have gotten a little soft over the years!!

I would use brick acid, then jet washed down. Maybe just a little bit of repointing once jet washed because could cause some mortar to be removed.
