Painting staircases - best way of getting high enough to cut in

Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.33 PM

I am looking to paint the ceiling and walls up a staircase in a recent new build house. Can you suggest the best way of getting high enough to cut in? I have a good extendable pole/roller so it is just reaching areas safely to cut in? Any advice would be appreciated. Walls are clean and in magnolia matt emulsion and will be done in a similar colour. Are there also any recommendations for the best paint to use?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Use a ladder with cloths over the top to save damage on the walls, if needed place a scaffold board through the rungs and onto the landing , you can use most good trade paints which will be suitable for the job ahead G A Ord Decorator, good luck. !

Use a ladder with a dust sheet put on the top as not to dent/ scratch/ mark walls and rest the legs firmly between where the tread meets the riser on the staircase. Paint would in most cases be matt emulsion but if you have children maybe something more durable. I personally have dulux diamond matt as my daughter likes to rub her hands up the walls as she runs up and down the stairs. It's easily cleaned. Plus the cheaper the paint ie. B&Q, Wickes or superstore own brands is rubbish for covering so you will find yourself going up and down that ladder more times than if you spend that bit more and get some half decent paint ie. dulux, crown or even farrow and ball.

I would use a ladder and attach a sponge to the end of each rung with some masking tape to protect the wall surface. I would use a good quality paint such as Dulux for this job.
