Kitchen or bathroom paint for steamy kitchen
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.03 PM
Hello, I am repainting my kitchen, it is quite small which leads to grease getting on the walls as well as a lot of condensation. It is currently just emulsion which is nightmare as it just comes off when I try to clean it. I was going to go with Dulux kitchen as it says it withstands grease and scrubbing, but do you think their bathroom paint would be better as that is designed to cope with steam? Would that be just as resistant to grease and scrubbing? Thanks for any advice! (=

You could always use acrylic eggshell which has a sheen finish and is durable in a steamy enviroment

As with any kitchen or bathroom the acumalation of condensation is lack of ventilation if this kitchen has access to a external wall then putting in a fan will help .if not but you have a hood as long as it is used it will trap grease but will not solve condensation unless this is vented outside .if none of these options are available too you try a moisture trap which very cheap will dry the air with the use of crystals a couple of these placed above cupboards will help but remember they do need emptying. check you have no leaks as damp issues are the main cause of condensation this will also promote mould and smells and will also affect your other surfaces like your units etc
I would certainly try to find the cause then the paint will not be a problem hope this helps

Prevention is better than cure I agree with R.I.C.H. SHIPPMAN. When painting wash down walls with sugar soap, treat any mould with antifungal wash, clean down and allow to dry.spot prime any bare patches, and apply two no coats of soft, or mid sheen finish.
