New wooden front door - what to buy and would carpenter advise?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.07 PM
Hi, I want to replace my front door but am not sure what to budget for it. It currently is a upva door which was there when we moved in and hate. We want to get a wooden door, but cannot afford anything too expensive. I know we not only need the door but also the framing bits too, but have no idea of what we would have to buy. Would the carpenter supply all this or would I and they advise? Also how long would this take? thanks!

Hi there.
Any good carpenter will have accounts or contracts with builders merchants and door suppliers. Simply decide on a style that you like and communicate this to your tradesman and they will do the rest including measuring and sorting out the frame. Check out Howdens, jeldwen or premdor for their ranges and pricing guide. It's a days work for an experienced carpenter.
Hope this is useful.
