Laminate over wooden floor - can plastic sheet between wood and laminate cause it to sweat?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.07 PM

I have a 1960's house with solid floors and parquet and have had laid a laminate floor over the top. This is now rising due to damp but there is no rising damp. Can the plastic sheet used between the wood and the laminate cause it to sweat please?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi You can lay a laminate over a timber plank subfloor as it will have a void for air to circulate and not sweat, you cannot lay laminate/wooden flooring over parquet as there is nowhere for moisture to go hence the sweating.

Yes it will sweat as there is nowhere for the moisture to go between floors. u would need a special underlay.
