New NEFF ovens wiring

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.07 PM

Hello all ... My sparky fitted 2 extra oven sockets running 6mm from the box to the sockets with 32a breakers i hope i have this wording right, so now i have 3 x 32 a breakers 1 for the hob induction and 1 for the new oven and 1 for the new compact oven. These are all neff products, had all delivered and the cable from the hob looks only like 2mm cable and the same from the compact appliance, the main oven had no cable so looks like that will need 6mm running back to 1 of the sockets am i correct up to now, my worry is the cable from the other 2 products look a little thin i.e 1-2mm cable but they state they should be hardwired, so can they just wire into the sockets that have 6mm coming to them from the box. Hope i explained this ok , i was expecting to use 6mm cable back from the appliances to the socket and didnt expect them to come with there own cable. Anyway so the cabling although looking wrong from the NEFF appliances can just be wired into the sockets? Any help would be great not for fitting just for peace of mind my spark is on holiday for a fortnight so ovens won't be connected for a while. --- Additional Hello again... thanks for replies to question... In summary I have 3 cooker sockets . The 3 appliances that will be installed are as follows a induction hob that has 7.6kw a compact oven that has 3.8 kw and a further oven that does 3.8kw.....The sockets from the box all have 6 mm cable . 2 appliances have come that are pre wired the hob and the compact the 3rd requires a cable ..In the box each one is protected by 30 amp are we all saying now that this needs downgrading to 20 amp ... I will have to get the heat resistant cable and 3 more breakers for him to fit when he is back...when we originally started this the 3 NEFF products all stated hard wiring into sockets ...The worry for me was when the 2 came that were pre wired they looked smaller cable than the 6 mm and I had a concern that they could not go into the sockets ie 6 mm in and 2.5 to appliances....anyway hope that helps any further advice would be great ...

Its most likely that these are 16 to 20Amp appliances made for the European market. Whilst they are ok to be connected to a 6mm cable, the circuit breakers should be downgraded to 20amps so that the smaller sized cable that is already fitted is adequately protected. A 32amp MCB is too high a current rating for a 2.5mm cable. Two 20amp breakers for the 3.8kw appliances yes! And 2.5mm heat resitant butyl flex if required.

Your appliance should of come with wiring instructions . Telling you what watts is . Cable size to use . If not you can normally find the kW on the inside of the oven door. If you find that the 1.5 or 2.5 cable is adequate (heat resistant) the 32mcb is oversized de rate to correct size referring to kW /230=amps Hope this makes sense to ya Thanks Jim

your electrician would have wired 6mm to cooker outlet, which is ok for you to connect your neff appliance into, and for your double oven it is better to wire in 4mm heat resistant flex,
