Peeling bathroom ceiling after plastered and PVA used

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.49 PM

Hi, My other half has had his bathroom ceiling plastered. It has been a number of months now since it was done, but after originally being painted, the paint would bubble and peel away, he used PVA on those bits and tried again, it kept bubbling so he just left it a while. Then today he sanded it down and tried reprinting the while ceiling....practically all of the paint has just fallen off the ceiling and left the bare plaster. Why does this keep happening? And what can he do to get the paint to stay on the ceiling without bubbling peeling or falling off?? Thank you and help is greatly appreciated as he is being really very grumpy haha :)

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Take all the paint off, sand back the PVA that is present to leave the plaster exposed, that will leave a mechanical key. Make sure you wipe down the plaster after sanding to leave clean and free from dust. Water down some paint (1 part water , 2 parts paint) this is known as a mist coat. The mist coat effectively seals and integrates with the plaster. Roll on but be sure not to leave roller lines on ceiling....let dry [this won't take long...30 mins max] The mist coat will highlight any imperfections in the plaster which can be made good with easyfill, then lightly sanded. Then apply first solid coat of paint, let that dry then apply a second coat. This will work! All the best ...

Good answer from simply plaster it’s important to give a mist coat on plastered walls and ceilings but use Matt not vinyl Matt as this will usually peel off
