LED under cupboard lighting

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.03 PM

I have purchased replacement LED strips of lights that are plugged into a transformer which it self plugs into 3 pin socket. What do I need to buy transformer wise to enable me to plug into mains and use existing light switch in kitchen that is wired to old under cupboard fluorescent lights?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

There are two types of "driver" for LED strips. Constant current and Constant voltage. You'll need to look at the manufacturers specification on the strips to see what type they are so that you can buy the appropriate driver unit. A standard low votage transformer will probably not work. - see link below http://www.screwfix.com/search.do?fh_search=led+driver&fh_view_size=20

hi, the transformer you have is all you will need to get the LED strip to work. the plug will be cut off the transformer lead and connected onto your switched supply which will in turn make the LED strip work off your existing switch. however this work is best left to an electrician as this can be more difficult than it sounds. not really a DIY job in all honesty. hope this helps Chris D&C Electrical

That really depends if your light switch controls the 3 pin socket you'll be plugging the LED transformer into? If it doesn't then you'll need an electrician to adapt the wiring to get you a point fed from that swicth. If you're happy to control the LED lights from the 3 pin socket switch, then the a transformer that is compatible with the LED lights is what you need to buy.

The easiest way to do this is to replace the florescent light with a socket and plug your transformer into that. (Belt and braces-label the socket LED TRANSFORMER )
