Query over neighbour putting a fence against mine

Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.32 PM

Hi, I have a couple of questions regarding my neighbour putting up a fence next to the boundary fence that belongs to me. I realise that my neighbour is fully entitled to put up her own fence on her side however I am not 100% sure what to do for the best. The reason is I have just moved in recently and there is currently an old 3ft chain fence on the boundary that belongs to us. I eventually want it removed and replaced with a new fence but money is a bit tight as we have just moved. It seems a bit daft for us to both be paying out for 2 new fences next to each other. Is it reasonable & more sensible in the long run if I can get the neighbour to put the fence up along the actual boundary if we can split the cost. The trouble is she only told us 2 days ago and the fence panels have been delivered today so it doesn't give me much time to sort it out. i.e remove the old concrete posts and fencing. Thanks for your help. Neil.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

This is an odd one, to be honest if I was in your position I would assume that they are taking this action for privacy, something I am sure you want as well and more then likely wanted it done for a long time and previous owners of your house would not or could not do it. I would talk to them and if they are really insisting on it being done straight away and they are not willing to wait till you can afford it, ask them what it would cost to remove the old fence and place it there, then maybe reach an agreement for you to pay the difference which will be minimal, but basically this is all down to relationships with those next door to you.
