Do i need to cement my new fireplace to the wall?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.07 PM

i have bought a new marble fireplace (just the frame), the fire itself is separate and electric, i was wondering whether i need to cement the back frame and the bottom to the wall/ floor? also if i do need the base cementing, would i need to bring up the laminate floor where the base woould be?

Hello there The wooden flooring should be cut away with around an inch protruding under the hearth then it should be cemented to the sub hearth so that it is level and solid the fireplace should then have metal brackets attached to it and secure to the wall via these and mastic. There have recently been several tragic cases where surrounds have fallen off the wall onto young children. You can't be too carefull. Hope this helps Lee Jensen (fireside world)
