Switches for electric hob/cooker

Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.32 PM

I have an electric oven and separate electric hob. I have one cooker power switch which when turned off turns off both appliances. Do you now require a separate switch for each appliance? If yes then how easy is this to do? Can you run a spur off the existing wiring? Or i also have a switch for an extraction fan , can this be utilised for the hob as well as the extraction ? Or is the one cooker switch ok ?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

A single switch that controls both the oven and hob is compliant with BS7671:2008, so no need to install an extra switch.

Depends on the load (kW rating) of the electric oven and electric hob.

Most fan cookers need a 13 amp fuse so one switch wouldn't be ok, there's a junction box that takes 2 6mm cables and a 2.5mm, run the 2.5mm to a fuse spur within 2 meters of the junction box preferably next to it, then out to the cooker. and the 6mm in and out of the original switch.
