Plumbing

Shower pipe leak due to no insulation/lagging on plastered & tiled wall.

2 years ago we had a wet room fitted through a disability council grant after only 2 years we called out a plumber connected to our house insurance. The plumber traced the leak and told us the problem was the pipe connected to our shower was corroded from exposure to the plaster it was encased in. We found the original specification sheet which the contractor was assigned by the council which stated that particular pipe was the only pipe requiring lagging. We notified the contractor and informed him of his oversight and if he was going to put right his mistake. The contractor sent someone to physicaly look at the problem. A few days later after several phone calls, we were told they only give 12 months guarantee and they could see no signs of complaint. We asked them to remove the tiles if they want more proof and since then any communication by us is ignored regarding the matter. Please can you tell me if I have grounds for recompense or who else can I lobby for support. Kind regards Roy W

I think you have a case as he did not complete the job to the required specification in the first place. The guarantee has nothing to do with it as he failed to do the job. Charge him for any damage too. Speak to the CAB. Threaten legal action. He might wake up and smell the coffee.
