Can I use a 1.5mt catnic lintel above ground floor 1.2mt French doors?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.49 PM
Hi, As explained briefly above, I already have a 1.5 metre catnic lintel (CN71A1500) which is for external solid wall. I have a 1900's terrace house and want to change my ground floor window out to the garden into a slightly wider set of French upvc doors (150mm wider) Does anyone know if this lintel is capable of taking the wall above which is a bedroom and then the roof? I have emailed catnic twice and no response. Any advice will be much appreciated. I am in the trade but am no brickie so welcome any help. Many thanks Brad

You can use this depending on the load weight above the French doors. so u could use an upgraded lintel to a heavy duty catnic to be sure the, the general rule of thumb is a 100mm over hand each side of the opening, but I try and stick to around 150mm overhang each side,
I hope this helps

the rule is if the thickness of the wall is 100mm the bearing must be minimum of 100mm if it is a 215 mm wall then the bearing must be minimum 215 ect
