It is illegal for you to work on any gas fittings but its an easy job for a registered gas engineer with the required knowledge and test equipment to carry out the task.

It is an offence for any one who is not competent (Gas Safe) to break into any gas way. Please use some common sense. Employ a local Gas Safe engineer to carry out this minimal cost work. You put yourself at risk as well as your immediate neighbour's!

You must get someone who is gas safe registered. It is illegal for anyone else to touch it. You can't even connect or disconnect a bayonet fitting on a cooker let alone cap off a pipe.
