Insulation

No insulation in loft conversion when plans clearly stated insulation should have been put in

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.03 PM

I had a large extension and loft conversion put on my house 2 years ago. About 2 months ago, I had to get a roofer to come and fix the fascia boards as rain water was leaking through into a bedroom. Whilst the roofer was here, I asked him to check the insulation in the roof as it is very cold in the loft room. The roofer confirmed that there wasn't any insulation up there. I have contacted my original builder and informed him of the problem. He said he would get back to us and hasn't. I have tried to contact him regularly but he is not answering his phone to me. I have left several messages and sent him an email, but no response. The plans clearly state that insulation should have been put in - where do I stand? Many thanks,

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Surely building control were involved in your work?? Why didn't they spot that there was no insulation in the loft conversion?

You need to check your loft conversion was inspected and signed off by building control. If it wasn't the lack of insulation is the least of the problems and the builder will have a case to answer to.

Hello, We can spray foam insulate the main roof creating a warm, dry, pest & draft-free environment. We use a soft breathable foam that adheres to the loft membrane or felt. We do not spray tiles. This way the loft space is a similar temperature to the home and you will not have to raise the floor at all. We would board over the current rafters providing they are in good order. Our spray foam solution, not all gives you good thermal resistance it completely stops cold air-infiltration and warm air leakage.
