Radiator will be too close to pipes after insulating bedroom - slim line radiator bracket?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.49 PM

I wanted to insulate my external bedroom wall due to condensation, so hacked off the old (blown) plaster from the wall and plan to dot and dab thermal plasterboard. However, the wall was around 10mm thick and the new plasterboard are 22mm thick, plus around 10mm for the drywall adhesive, the extra thickness means the rad will be too close to the pipes to put the radiator back on. What could I do to solve this, other than moving the pipes? Is there such a thing as a slim line rad bracket?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi. Better to move the pipes, this is a simple job for a good plumber. Radiators, despite the name, don't actually radiate a great amount of heat. Most of the heat transferred into the room is via convection currents, if you wedge your radiator tight to the wall, you will reduce its effectiveness, given that you've put in so much effort to insulate the wall, it would be false economy to bodge the rad back on!
