Bricklaying & Repointing

brick pillar using brick on edge to top it off with oversails

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.49 PM

I have been given a task of building a 1 and a half brick pillar 11 courses high with 27mm over sails over 2 courses before brick on edge, and my drawing shows 6 bricks on edge to top off the pillar. Is this correct? 1 and half brick pillar is 330.5 mm two courses at 27 mm is 54 mm so: 330.5 add 54 is 384.5mm and 6 bricks on edge is 440mm not 384.5 ? can anyone help please?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You haven't calculated including the oversail on both sides. You will have roughly 330+54+54 which makes 438mm and is 6 bricks on edge.

6 bricks on edge should be 450. 75mm each brick that’s inc a 10mm mortar joint.
