Can I use Dulux Satinwood paint on new furniture?
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.49 PM
Hi, I have a cream coloured console table that I would like to paint white. I have some Dulux Satinwood paint in pure brilliant white and I would like to avoid sanding as the table is new and I am inexperienced with this sort of thing. I have read that Annie Sloan Chalk Paint may be the best option but I have lots of Satinwood paint so I was wondering if I could use that. Thanks for your help.

Hi kem_62
I don't see why you can't use satinwood paint on new furniture, but you would have to sand it first to provide a key for the paint (just so the paint will grip to the surface) and after sanding it, you would then have to undercoat it before applying the satinwood, because it is a top coat. Although you may be able to apply 2 coats of satinwood if it is self undercoating for a solid finish, the instructions on the paint tin should be able to clarify that. I hope you find this information helpful and good luck making your decision.

Hi yes you can use satinwood but you would have to form some key for the paint to grab I would lightly sand with a finishing paper then clean with white spirits then apply a grip primer followed by 2 coats of satinwood allow plenty of drying time and ventilation
